Hang Ten Belt Buckle

Hang Ten - not a trick you see as much anymore. This buckle has "Tiffany Studio New York" on the back, but is not from the real Tiffany Studio. Mostly likely made sometime in the late 70s.

Sumo Santa

This is a limited edition Sumo Santa figure from Tech Deck Dudes released in 2005 (I think) as a gift at the company holiday party. These appear on eBay from time to time and I managed to snag one on a cheap buy-it-now. There is a 2nd limited Holidude dressed as a reindeer, as well as a regularly released snowman Holidude figure.

Nollie

Nollie "The Skate Rat," a figure from The Outsiders, a series of figures by Kidrobot and Joe Ledbetter. These were released in 2017 and Nollie is the only skater in the series.

Donald Duck X

Donald Duck riding a three-axle, rocket-powered skateboard complete with headlights. In addition to this pin, this graphic was used for t-shirts and posters and is sometimes accompanied by the text "Banzai Duck."

Check the Disney tag for more Donald.

Bart Simpson XII

Bart Simpson from the World of Springfield collection. These were released between 2000 and 2003 and featured a pretty thorough cast of characters. This is the original Bart figure from the initial wave in 2000. In addition to his skateboard and can of spraypaint, he also came with a slingshot and Santa's Little Helper.

Daredevil Bart from the same series previously appeared here on BPA.

Connector

The Skateboarder from Matchbox's Connectors (sometimes branded as Socket Poppers). These guys heads, arms, and legs pop off so you can switch them around. The skateboarder doesn't seem to have a name. He was packaged with a humanoid pterodactyl. His skateboard is connected to his feet so any figure you want as a skater has to at least have this guy's right leg. I've seen dates between 1989 and 1991 for these guys.

Little Bobdog

I picked this guy up in a lot of pins and had a bit of trouble tracking him down. I initially thought he was from an anime show but that search did not yield the answer. Then I got lucky and saw a figure of the same character on ebay - Little Bobdog, the company mascot of the Japanese company Sunward LTD. I'm not sure when this pin is from but Bobdog was created in 1988 so sometime after that.

KKB Bank Dogman

This figure from Germany's KKB band is this year's Halloween post because, let's face it, the (white person's) flesh colored hands and the brown dog head and tail make this guy pretty creepy. This was part of a set featuring a number of anthropomorphic animals, most of which, but not all, have human hands.

Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot first came on the video game scene in 1996. He's seen here riding a rocket-powered skateboard. This figure is from 2001, a premium from Hardee's / Carl's Jr. "Cool Kids Meal."

Previous Marsupials: a koalaKalli Kangaroo and Dizzy Devil.

Happyland

This figure is from the Happyland line of toys, a UK brand similar to the Fisher Price Little People. Surprisingly I can't find any further info on him.

Clubhouse Kitties

This kitty was part of a Littlest Pet Shop playset entitled "Clubhouse Kitties" from 1995.  She's similar to the previously featured LPS Beethoven figure from the previous year.

See also: this ferret as well as Russell Ferguson.

Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown makes his first solo appearance on BPA. This is a bit newer than most of the Peanuts figures. It was made by Schleich in 2017. Check the Peanuts tag for Chuck's previous appearances along with a lot of Snoopy.

Izzy The Whatzit II

Izzy the Whatzit returns for his 2nd appearance, once again in pin form. For those of you who have forgotten, Izzy was the mascot for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, GA. Skateboarding was not in those Olympics, but was featured in the closing ceremony alongside BMX and roller blading.

Mickey Mouse VII

Mickey Mouse makes his 7th appearance on BPA as one of his earliest figures. This is a pull-back skateboard from 1979 branded as L'il Zips and advertised as having "fun-bouncing action." There are a couple different color combos for this guy, of which I have 2.

Nathan's Extreme Bendy

Here at BPA we go the extra mile to track down every skateboarding hot dog figure. Just when I think I have them all another pops up. This frank is from Nathan's and is from a 2004 set called "Extreme Bendies" that also featured a blader, surfer, and biker. He's fully padded up with an oversized bike helmet.

Grizz

Grizz from the Cartoon Network show We Bare Bears. I never personally got too into this show although I have watched it on occasion. This figure is a McDonald's Happy Meal toy from 2020 and was an only released overseas.

Bart Simpson XIII

Bart is getting up there with Snoopy and Garfield as one of the most prolific characters featured on BPA. He's seen here grabbing double stinkbug. This one is from 1992 and was a UK Burger King premium from a set called "wheelies" which featured all the Simpson family on various vehicles, which I use rather loosely considering Lisa was on a cloud with her saxophone.

Angela Woofit

The Woofits were a race of dog-like creatures living in England from a series of children's books from the 1980s (and a cartoon spin-off). This figure is of Angela Woofit and is from 1980.

Hamburglar

The Hamburglar makes his first solo appearance on BPA. This is a figure that was part of the Japan-only "Fun Time on Wheels" set which included Grimace on a skateboard. The Hamburglar came with a scooter but can also stand on the board. These are the same vehicles as the common McDonald's Garfield set.

The Hamburglar's only previous appearance here was as part of this McDonaldland sticker set.

Fisher Price Little People II

Fisher Price Little People skateboarder for team USA competing in the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. There are a couple little people skateboarders, but this is the first to be holding his board rather than have a detachable board to ride. These newer ones are much less aesthetically pleasing than the older, more dangerous classic little people.

Skate Grom

Skate Grom from Hot Wheels to commerate the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. This mold was previously used and marketed as "Skate Punk."

Miraitowa

Miraitowa is the mascot for the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the first time skateboarding has appeared in the Olympics. Seen here in pin form. See also: Izzy from the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Poivre Blanc Pin

Poivre Blanc is a clothing company from France. Not much else to say, just a pin of a kid holding a skateboard.

Yellow M&M III

Yellow M&M returns for his 3rd appearance, this time grabbing stinkbug. This is a European topper from 2006 (I think). Previous M&M appearances: Green, Red, Yellow, Yellow II, Blue, Blue II.

Check out the Stinkbug tag for more ugly grabs.

Toadette

Toadette from Hardee's in 1994. She is part of a set called the Tattoads - 4 figures that also came with temporary tattoos. This is a weird one - I can find no other info on this - as if it's not a tie-in to anything but just a set of toads that Hardee's came up with.

Huey, Dewey, & Louie II

Huey, Dewey, & Louie make their 2nd appearance as a trio, this time riding the same board. This is a pencil topper - no date on this one.

Rocket Power

Rocket Power set from Burger King in 2002. Each figure from this set came with different, interchangable boards/rides. Sam was previously featured with his motorized dirt board. Other accessories included a longboard, snowboard,  windsurfing surfboard, and a scooter. I pictured them all here with Reggie's regular board.

I have only seen the first episode of Rocket Power, but the 2nd part is a story about Reggie being in charge of her neighbor's pool. The guys convince her to drain it and skate it. Of course the owner's come home and they have to get the water back into the pool pronto. Luckily they drained it into her basement so it was easy to reverse the pump and put it back in, just like real life.

Sam also made a previous as a PVC figure.

Wurzelpeter Gnome

This gnome is the mascot of Wurzelpeter, described as a Kräuterlikör-type liqueur. Unknown date.

Concrete Warrior

A vintage concrete warrior enamel pin. Not much more to say here - the pin pretty much speaks for itself.

Brown

Sliding Brown is a figure from Pop Mart in 2020. He's part of the Line Friends, a collection of corporate mascots for the Line Corporation. Last week featured Sally from the same line. He's married to Cony, who also has a skateboard figure in this set but it's the "secret" figure (and therefore too expensive for me).

Sally

Skateboard Sally figure from Pop Mart in 2020. Sally is from Line Friends, a series of corporate mascots from the Line Corporation. Sally is a baby chicken, although apparently frequently mistaken for a duck. She hangs out with Brown, a bear who will be featured next week.

Buzz Lightyear & Rex

Buzz Lightyear & Rex riding tandem from Toy Story 2 (1999). It looks like this was a pull back or rev up skateboard but whatever internal mechanism once existed is done for and the wheels are just free spinning now, like a real skateboard I guess.

OMO Chimp

This chimp was a premium figure found in OMO laundry detergent in 1996. I guess maybe that is a normal thing in Europe. We just settle for toys in cereal over here in the US. Or at least we used to - I don't think that's been a thing for quite awhile now.

Bart Simpson XII

Bart didn't have too many appearances early on (compared to Snoopy or Garfield) but he is slowly catching up. He's seen here in pin form again, going fast. This graphic is often accompanied by a speech bubble saying "Gangway, man!" and sometimes with the "skateboard champion of the universe" title below.

Monday, April 26, 2021

Mickey Mouse VII

Mickey Mouse makes his 7th appearance on BPA. Once again in figure form, this time as part of the "Disney Heroes" set sold exclusively at Disney Parks. Goofy and Stitch from this set have already been posted here (all that is left is Donald who I do not have at the time I'm writing this).

Android Pins

These Android pins were part of a larger set of pins. I believe there were 3 skaters in the set but I only have these 2.

Monday, April 12, 2021

Big Bird

Big Bird makes his first appearance on BPA. There have been a fair amount of Sesame St./Muppets related characters but Big Bird has never seemed to make the cut. This figure is part of a "Street Trend" series released by Popmart in 2020. This is basically an entire series of Poochiefied versions of Sesame St. characters, 3 of which have skateboards (the other 2 are Cookie Monster & Abby Cadabby).

Check the Muppet tag for more Sesame St.

Dudley's Pals

Dudley (above) & his pals on pullback skateboards from 1993, marketed as "FFFast Moving!!!" Dudley was a character put on a variety of Easter themed products but never (as far as I can tell) made the jump from novelties to cartoons. He got a makeover sometime this century, going from a weird doofus to a sanitized generic bunny.

These were made by Spearhead Industrues who also released a Halloween "Creepy Creatures" vampire and ghost set.
